What is a FAQ?
Frequently Asked
Questions.
What is the JLUG?
The (not-so)
underground LUG.
The JLUG is a group of
Lego enthusiast that are not geographically centred
but certainly work together through online
communication. After joking around for awhile it
started making sense to have a group that could
participate online. Especially for those unable to
attend regular Lug meetings due to distance or other
factors or for those that just can't seem to join
enough LUGs.
What does the abbreviation "JLUG" mean?
Journeymen Lego User
Group
Why is it named *THAT*????
The "J" in
JLug was originally formed in jest, a play on my name
(Janey), and the fact that I had no one close by to
share the enjoyment of building with. The first few
members we also added in playful fun out of
friendships made through this hobby.
While that name was
fun when playing, I am really not that narcissistic,
so myself and another member searched for a better
word to represent the "J" in JLUG. When we
came across "Journeymen" we felt it was
perfect for many reasons....
- We appreciated the
fact of the word "Journeymen" meant
somewhere between apprentice and master.
The process of growth within each builder.
- The historical reference to stone mason and brick
layer was purely entertaining.
- The idea of the informal name of
"Journeymen" being "Jack" was a
perfect play on one of the core values of this group
is to cover all themes..... "Jack of all
trades".
- Jack (as in Stone) is also is a reminder of the
"nastier" side of our hobby.
- There is also the ironic impact of the name
carrying both the word "journey" and
"men".
The "journey" referring to all the travel
time involved with many LUG members if they want to
be involved in person and the word "men" is
purely poetic justice due to the fact that the group
was founded by a woman.
Does the group have focus or main theme?
Absolutely not!
Members are encouraged to think out of the box or
stay tightly in the box they enjoy.
Our members run the gamut from micro to over scaled
mocs, castle to space, technic to scala, mindstorms
to belville, and everything in-between.
Is this group for children? Do you plan events for
children? Will you mentor children?
Will you babysit my children? Do you hate children?
No, no, no, no and
....... NO.
Do you have any Terms of Service (ToS) or Terms of Use
(ToU) for the JLUG?
No, we hate rules.
But, to join the
forums (intended for a mature audience) there is a an
agreement that you must comply with to be able to
participate. If you are dissatisfied with any part of
the forum or with any of the content or behaviours of
the members, or you can not abide by this agreement
you should discontinue use of, or not register for
this forum.
How does the forum work?
The forum has its own
FAQ page here.
Why do you have a forum?
The forum is a casual
place to discuss all things related (or not so
related) to our shared hobby. Lots of silly banter on
whats old, whats new and whats
going on. Mainly a place to chill out and chat in a
fun, light hearted way, littered with
"smack", innuendoes,
and the occasional bit of profanity. Nothing too
serious, just a casual place to get bent and post.
Pretty much like an after hours club after a great
brick event. The place to sit back, have a cyber
coke/beer/rye and have a good laugh about all things
squared and stack-able.
Why are you encouraging things like "smack"?
Why not?
Still have
questions?
Please feel free to drop us a line
through the email button below and we will try to
answer them.
If you make it a good one, it just may end up in this
FAQ.
